Tales of Xenia
Bear Pit Theatre (UK)

The ancient Greeks held the idea of Xenia sacred: it’s the concept of
helping strangers, offering hospitality to lost travellers. It’s time to
celebrate Xenia again: in today’s landscape of bleak newsfeeds and toxic
algorithms, Bear Pit Theatre went looking for tales of everyday hope and
a brighter worldview. With verbatim accounts drawn from war-torn
Afghanistan to Soviet Russia, from drunken inter-railing to the
friendliest mugging ever, these tales are an antidote to cynicism. We
focus on truth and simplicity, merging the words of everyday decency
with physical theatre and puppetry in a glorious carnival of optimism.
