Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre with Asian Arts Global (China)
The female snake spirit Bai Suzhen longs to be human. Her wish is
granted, and she falls in love with a young man, Xu Xian. However their
marriage and life together is not without challenges. A
thousand-year-old story about the power of love in the face of
adversity, performed with live music, and the colourful costumes, exotic
make-up and subtle movements of traditional Kunqu opera, an ancient art
form rarely performed in the west. Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre strives
to share Kunqu Opera with world. Sung in Chinese, with English surtitles.
