Practice of Zen

Theatre Ronin (Hong Kong)

On a roof webbed with fish-bone antenna, a child with a superhero blanket cape was brought to the realm of Wuxia by a leaf. He took in all the tangling of impermanence with resentment, lust with karma, in the martial world. Now he is back, but thousands of years have passed. Experience the spirit of Wuxia: not a fairytale for grownups, but a medium to evoke thinking between the personal and the social. Inspired by the writings of Li Shoumin, who captivated millions who found themselves in troubled times. Theatre Ronin recreates folklore and contemporary emotional landscape.

‘A beautifully shot series of loosely connected dramatic scenes with smooth, elegant and intense choreography… Its aesthetics are spot on; everything is beautifully surrealist and absurd… Offers the unique aesthetic and thematic richness of Wuxia films and pays homage to ancient Chinese philosophy and traditioTheatre Ronin have mastered the perfect antidote to TikTok addiction’ **** (BroadwayBaby.com)

‘Beautifully filmed… a strong piece… and has the feel of an epic martial arts !lm in its construction… The movement is fluid, fowing, and fierce’ (LouReviews.blog)

‘Alex Tam Hung Man’s writing and directing tells this tale of woe and heartache as though he was guided through by superhuman hands… The set was fluttering with riches… The story plumed forth with pace, gusto, benevolence and brilliance… Time was set aside for every feeling and thought and there was nothing that was missed or overlooked’ (MumbleTheatre.net)
