Deshacer el Rostro (To Undo the Face)

A digital live dance-theatre performance designed for Zoom Webinar format that explores space, presence and connection in one ground-breaking event. Conceived and developed during the lockdown in Chile, Deshacer el Rostro (To Undo the Face) is performed entirely from the artists’ homes, and streamed to audiences online. Inspired by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s idea of 'undoing the face' as a gesture toward imagining other possible worlds, the piece examines the digital medium’s capacity to cultivate meaningful encounters and shared experiences, regardless of geographical location. New, dynamic and immersive.Directed by | Paulina MelladoMusic by | José Miguel MirandaVisual Artist | Nury GonzálezAssistant Directed by | Gonzalo VenegasProduced by | Cristián HormazábalInterpreted by | Marcela Retamales, Camila Jiménez, Macarena Pastor, Cristián Hormazábal, Vannia Villagrán, Matías Carvajal, Hugo Castillo, Manuela Perea and Verónica Canales Watch Preview This is a digital on-demand performance available to view online at any time throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 | After the Fringe, the performance will be continue to be available at www.CtheArts.com

Dreams of Peace and Freedom: The Streams of Natural Law

A powerful combination of film, text, and performance exploring the birth of modern human rights, told through the eyes of Nuremberg prosecutor and champion of the ECHR, David Maxwell Fyfe. His words intertwine with Sue Casson’s musical settings of the poets who inspired him on his journey along his stream of natural law. Conceived and performed by members of the next generation of Maxwell Fyfe’s family. ‘Tells a very necessary story of not only an amazing man, but also the hopelessness of man and mankind's hope for the future. Brilliantly performed’ (Derek Awards). ‘Richly layered… celebrates the concept of natural law’ (LouReviews.blog).A companion piece to the film version of this work, Dreams of Peace and Freedom: The Human’s in the Telling.Available in our digital on-demand programme and was performed live in our Edinburgh Fringe 2022 season. Fires on the Plain

Experience a bold theatrical adaptation of one of Japan’s most powerful war novels: Ōoka Shōhei’s classic Fires on the Plain reimagined for the stage. This solo performance brings to life the harrowing journey of a soldier lost in the chaos of World War II. Through multiple roles, one actor explores the depths of war, solitude, and human survival. Explores themes of faith, dignity and humanity through the loneliness, hunger and moral dilemma of the Philippine front. A visceral, intimate take on Ooka’s classic, confronting the darkness of war with haunting clarity.Original Text by | Ōoka ShōheiAdapted and Directed by | Horikawa HonohPerformed by | Nagai HidekiPhotos by | Igaki Photo Studio (use courtesy of Toyooka Theatre Festival, Japan)This is a digital on-demand performance available to view online at any time throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 | After the Fringe, the performance will be continue to be available at www.CtheArts.com Watch Trailer

Hiding Behind the Mask: Jesters, Jokers, and Clowns

An intriguing, soul-searching masterclass into the personas of jesters, jokers, and clowns, through the lens of the theatrical mask. From Greek trickster gods to Japanese Noh Theatre, commedia dell’arte and opera to slapstick and cartoons, join Professor Rosemary George on a rollercoaster through the joys and sorrows, comedies and tragedies of life, which probes hidden identities in human behaviour.‘The professor’s range and extent of research is clearly apparent’ (EdinburghGuide.com).‘A densely packed piece of work which successfully steers a course between the jagged rocks of academic dryness and the coral reefs of mundanity' (EdinburghGuide.com).‘Brilliantly and eloquently written… Thoughtful… Extraordinarily well-researched’ (Audience Review, Edinburgh Fringe).‘Quite unique… Informative and fun’ (Audience Review, Edinburgh Fringe).‘A truly thoughtful, educational and enjoyable presentation of the deep symbolism in the masks that we as human beings are required to wear. Loved it’ (Crowd Pleasers Audience Review, Melbourne Fringe).'Lively… wide-ranging… George’s extensive research is apparent in the breadth of examples provided… Those with an interest in the history of opera and theatre will enjoy George’s lecture, particularly the innovative linkages she makes between mediums… Charming delivery… Excellent' (TheatreReview.org.nz).This is a masterclass in how we become what we are not, from the 'tears of a clown to the masks of traditional Japanese Noh. It considers the jester as the communicator of the soul... It both touches on many different forms and places where the mask appears.' Madman William

Three men walk into a bar – a Dane, a Swain, and a Thane. Tired of their tragic lives and nightly deaths, Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth seek to escape their storylines. As they conspire to be free of their creator and flee their destinies, they are interrupted by none other than the author himself, Will Shakespeare. The tragedy escalates into mayhem and mischief once Mercutio arrives… Will the plotting protagonists prevail? Can Shakespeare stop his conspiring characters and save himself? Migrant Shakespeare

Think you know your Shakespeare? Think again! This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen him before – ‘trippingly on the tongue’… Migrant actors take on the Bard, reinterpreting his words in alien environments you will never have imagined before. They give his iconic characters a new life, migrating them into the roles assigned to outsiders by society. Hamlet is a meat-packer, King Lear a construction worker, Caliban a hotel cleaner, Lady Macbeth a housewife looking after children, and Shylock washes the dishes in a restaurant. This is no one Bard: Shakespeare belongs both to no-one and to everyone.’Migrant Shakespeare and Seyyar Theatre are a gift… Even hindered by an English that I’m sure they struggle for, their Shakespeare is pretty damn good’ (British Theatre Guide)‘A fascinating look at how those whose first language is other than English treat the words and meaning of the Bard’ (LouReviews.blog)‘Highly dramatic… These people grasp the undercurrents so well… It made me think’ (FringeReview.co.uk)Monologues by | William Shakespeare

Not Without Right

Shakespeare sits in his script-, costume- and prop-strewn attic amending his Will, when his Muse magically materialises. ‘Why are you here?’ She points to the audience. ‘I’ve come to prove to them you wrote the plays.’ ‘How?’ ‘By getting you to reveal where you “signed them”.’ ‘Screw you.’ What follows is a heart-warming, at times tragic, often heated debate between them – the Muse hurling Will’s own lines in his face – that ultimately reveals the truth and the urban legends that make up Will’s life and works, allowing him to adopt the motto: ‘Not Without Right’.Written by | Colin CoxCastWilliam Shakespeare | Colin CoxThe Muse | Alessandra MañónDirected by | Fran de Leonwillsplayers.org This is a digital on-demand performance available to view online at any time throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 | After the Fringe, the performance will be continue to be available at www.CtheArts.com

Out of Line

Out of Line is a 6-minute dance short capturing a woman’s psychological and physical resistance against rules defined by men – both on the ballroom floor and in reality. Inspired by the rigid follower/leader dynamic of standard ballroom, the piece exposes the invisible shackles imposed on women. Through struggle, isolation, rebellion and exploration, she seeks liberation, but can she ever truly break free? With striking choreography, a haunting performance, and feminist urgency, the film opens up questions about power, gender, and autonomy – all without speaking a single word.Directed by | Jin LiChoreographed by Xi Liu and Jin Li Watch Trailer

The Fahrenheit Alliance

Original multimedia performance inspired by Kyle Yamada’s play The Fahrenheit Alliance. Actors trapped in their room by Covid-19 organise a secret, invisible alliance on the cloud, transcending walls and distance. The play poses a secret way of gathering during an emergency time when we are forbidden to assemble in one place. One person records a voice for someone else. that someone listens and performs along with the recording. The performer then records their voice for another person, thus passing the baton.First shown in Edinburgh at the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, this version of the work is also known as The Fahrenheit Alliance IIIA live version of this work is, The Fahrenheit Alliance V, can be also experienced in our Edinburgh Fringe 2025 seasonThe same company perform The Story of the Tower in our digital on-demand programmeThis is a digital on-demand performance available to view online at any time throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 | After the Fringe, the performance will be continue to be available at www.CtheArts.comCreated by | Mitsuko Hirai and Rob MorenoText by | Kyle Yamada (Allergen Theatre)Music by | Mayumi IshidaPhysical Expression by | Mitsuko HiraiVoice and Video Clip by | Tamaki KobayashiStage Design and Video Clip by | Xu WenfeiFilm by | Rob MorenoProduced by | Mitsuko Hiraiwww.mitsukohirai.comwww.facebook.com/mitsuko.hirai.5www.instagram.com/hiraimitsuko/ Watch Trailer

Unbound

Two people, disconnected from themselves and weighed down by emotional residue, discover a ritual of release. Through breath, shaking, and raw, expressive movement, they begin to shed what their bodies have held. One resists. One rises. Together they remember joy. Unbound is a 6-minute, non-verbal dance-theatre work exploring how stress and trauma live in the body – and how we can clear them. Drawing on somatic practices and lived experience, The Code Collective presents a bold, healing piece designed to move audiences emotionally and physically. Visceral, minimal, and human, this is movement that refuses to stay still.Created, Choreographed and Performed | Rachel SyderPerformed by | Bajoura JonkerSound Design and Music Editing by | Rachel SyderProduced by | The Code Collective

What the Fox?

A heartfelt and humorous coming-of-age comedy by Jed Sutton, inspired by the first LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent-inclusive Scout Troop 5813. Set in a post-pandemic world, it explores identity, community, and resilience as a gender and neurodiverse group of young adults navigate belonging in a challenging society. Xe [zi:]

Language creates awareness and reinforces stereotypes, but what if the vocabulary is not enough to describe one’s identity? Female, male, both or neither. It is difficult to describe in words what has long been a reality. The traditional gender division based on one’s sex is far outdated. However, do our language and behaviour follow this change? This interactive dance film addresses the following questions: What impact does language have on gender differentiation? How do certain meanings of a word become established? And what cultural, political and ethical influence do these have on us and our bodies?Written by | Darja Reznikova and Angela WendtPieces and Performers:Opening | João Kreth d'OreyLost in Translation | Felix ChangThe Living Room | Marco Labellarte and Cecilia PonteprimoDeep Blue Sea | Miriam MarklRe-birth | Anthony SelwynProjections | Lorenzo PonteprimoThe Gathering | Miriam Markl, Lorenzo und Cecilia Ponteprimo,Felix Chang, Anthony Selwyn, Marco Labellarte, João Kreth d’Orey, Sabio JaniakDirected by | Darja ReznikovaDramaturgy by | Angela WendtLighting and Set Design by | Mireille SolomonCostume Design by | Susana FlorêncioGraphics by | Schreiner Medien DesignLocation by | Altes Stromwerk Mannheim  Watch TrailerThis is a digital on-demand performance available to view online at any time throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 | After the Fringe, the performance will be continue to be available at www.CtheArts.com

This staged reading combines evocative soundscapes by Ariel Bittner and expressive choreography by Andrea Parson, and blends humor, magic, and the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest into a powerful story of self-discovery and connection.www.whatthefoxrox.cominstagram.com/what_the_fox_rox/ Watch Trailer
