Dreams of Peace and Freedom

English Cabaret with C theatre (UK)

Scottish-born lawyer David Maxwell Fyfe was a leading prosecutor at the Nuremberg war crimes trials, who went on to become the British artisan of the European Convention on Human Rights. For him this was all One Story. A new generation of his family bring this story to life with a unique piece of theatre, blending Maxwell Fyfe’s personal papers, Sue Casson’s ethereal music and archive film in the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials. Followed by Q&A.

    Dreams of Peace and Freedom: The Human’s in the Telling

    The Human's in the Telling follows David Maxwell Fyfe's journey from Nuremberg, where he was a leading British prosecutor at the War Crimes Trials, to Strasbourg, where he was a driving force behind the European Convention on Human Rights. Set in a Sussex forest, a new generation of Maxwell Fyfe's family explore the significance of the ECHR under the shadow of pandemic restrictions.
