Odyssea

This dance-on-film follows the epic journey of Odyssea, a curious sea traveller, as she encounters flora and fauna in fantastical realms. New York-based Quicksilver Dance perform with only their hands, painted to become vibrant characters. Across biomorphic landscapes of sculptures and fabric and set to original music, Odyssea offers a feminist take on the concept of an odyssey: she makes her way by helping fellow travellers, building relationships and trading, rather than through the mythologically typical (male) approaches of strength, trickery or intrigue. This playful and poignant tale of encountering difference promises to make the familiar feel excitingly unfamiliar again.‘Odyssea is clever, vibrant, and poignant storytelling captured at its very best’ (LouReviews.blog)‘Fabric makes a landscape, a seascape, to host boats made from driftwood and other coastal pieces. It all appears so simple but it's obvious deep thought has gone into every choice. Masquerade Mask

Two servants, Pasta and Pizza, are tasked by their master to introduce and showcase the cultural phenomenon that is Commedia dell’Arte. They are to bring the Masks on display – the old Venetian merchant, Pantalone, the servants Zanni and Arlecchino, the Doctor; the Captains, and more – to life. The show is presented in English and Italian, and through many games, jokes, and puns, it tackles Commedia's central themes: the love of power, the power of love, the hunger and misery of the less fortunate, and the magic that surrounds life and stage.Cast | Luca Comastri, Tania Passarini, Gabriel BirdCreated by | Massimo Machiavelli, Luca ComastriSongs composed by | Umberto CavalliThanks | Ministero della Cultura, Regione Emilia-Romagna, Comune di Bolognafacebook.com/fraternalcompagniainstagram.com/fraternal_compagnia/

Circus, Break!

Our circus is one big family. We know that all families are dysfunctional, but our circus is in trouble, and the controlling Ringmaster won’t listen to opposition. Safety measures have been failing, and performers have been falling. The one place where we can talk freely is the break room, and lately conversation is all about the broken spirit of the troupe, and breaking the back of this curse before someone breaks the lunatic Ringmaster’s neck. And getting it done before the safety inspector arrives. JukeSox

A dynamic sketch comedy show blending traditional sketches with improv influence, Jukesox offers a refreshing new take on the genre. The show thrives on the chemistry of its cast, who deliver a unique performance each night. Unlike conventional sketches, narratives bleed into one another, with recurring gags and characters enhancing the cohesion – such as Berry the cost-cutting council worker, and Dolfo the insecure home assistant. Drawing inspiration from everyday absurdities, current events, and societal quirks, the material is refined through improv workshops and promises an entertaining exploration of life's absurd intricacies.Performed by | Ilya Wray, Georgie Wedge, Lola Knight, Michal Vojtech, Ariel de la Garza DavidoffWritten and Directed by | Ilya Wray and Ariel de la Garza Davidoffwww.threepennycollective.co.uk/instagram.com/threepennycollective/

Adaptation: Enough Already

Inspired by the work of Dr Gabor Maté, this is a play for women who do too much and the men who love them. Tilda is a busy working mum, caught in the unsatisfying squeeze between huge responsibilities at the office, the invisible mental and emotional loads at home, and a yearning to remember who she is and what she loves. Add menopause, unspoken social norms that she’s unwittingly internalised, teenage kids, an ageing mother – and there you have it: enough already! Is a strong wind all it takes to tip people over the edge? This multimedia thriller is inspired by Joan Didion’s essay on the Santa Ana. The Elephant in the Room

A new play. Performed by Faith Abongo.Love in the twenty-first century is an eclectic ideology and culmination of dreamy, programmed constructs. A concocted, conditional fairy-tale embedded deeply in the phenomena of current social complexities. Based on externalised fantasy, we idealise what and who our partners should be. The love they should provide. The expectations of what our unions should yield. Largely, contemporary love is based on hazy perspectives that doesn’t reflect truth: it is an elusive perceived experience that deletes the intricate dynamics which comprise realistic human experience and exchange. When the curtains drop, the illusions become a bitter unpalatable truth.Written, Created and Performed by | Faith Martin AbongoDirected and Produced by | Faith Martin AbongoCast in order of appearance | Faith Martin Abongo & Temisanren UwawahSet, Costume and Lighting Design by | Faith Martin AbongoSound Design by | Christine Atieno and Faith Martin AbongoIntimacy coordinator | Christine AtienoThanks to | Christine Atieno, Africanus World

Limbo is set at Melbourne Park Hotel, 2021, when refugees were being detained indefinitely by the Australian government, some having been incarcerated for nine years. Embracing circus and classical music in one captivating world, Limbo rollercoasts through anger, frustration, fantasy and escape, exploding with one of the greatest weapons against oppression – hope.Performed by | Sonja Schebeck, Josh FrazerCreated by | Chloé Charody, Sonja Schebeck and Josh FrazerComposed by | Chloé Charodywww.chloecharody.com/limbofacebook.com/ComposerChloeCharodyinstagram.com/chloecharodycreations/

Masa Madre

Consuelo runs Masa Madre, a family bakery she inherited from her grandmother. In former times, the bakery was the epicentre of social life. Today, it faces a serious threat. Increased tourism, spurred by Jarona's recent designation as 'one of the most beautiful towns in Spain' has led to the proliferation of large chain stores, endangering Consuelo's legacy, and her way of life. The next few days could change the fate of the bakery forever… This non-verbal play for all the family, performed with masks, is the second show at the Fringe from Madrid-based Neko Theatre.Performed by | Miriam Lorenzo, Maria Prendes, Sandra BravoDirected by | Maria Prendes, Sandra Bravo, Miriam LorenzoWritten by | Miriam Lorenzo, Maria Prendes, Sandra BravoMusic and Sound design by | Jo Durango and Ross GrantLighting Designed by | Virginia LomasTechnician | Alvaro PalomoPhotos | Roberto Ivan Canowww.nekoteatro.comfacebook.com/nekoteatroinstagram.com/nekoteatro/

Migrant Shakespeare

Think you know your Shakespeare? Think again! This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen him before – ‘trippingly on the tongue’… Migrant actors take on the Bard, reinterpreting his words in alien environments you will never have imagined before. They give his iconic characters a new life, migrating them into the roles assigned to outsiders by society. Hamlet is a meat-packer, King Lear a construction worker, Caliban a hotel cleaner, Lady Macbeth a housewife looking after children, and Shylock washes the dishes in a restaurant. This is no one Bard: Shakespeare belongs both to no-one and to everyone.

More Than Nude

Who are the five most beautiful women in the world? By applying the symmetry of the golden ratio to a female face, some researchers from the Public University of Bingo establish a universal standard of feminine beauty and thereby a quality control. This incredible discovery gave born to More Than Nude, the first striptease of faces ever. This French-English bilingual live art performance plays with translation, disruption of the present, creature costumes and absurdity, to collectively and scientifically answer the question: who is beautiful, who is not? What conclusions can we draw?Written, Created and Performed by | Clotilde SalmonCreated and performed by | Camille Fugerhttps://clotildesalmon.fr/facebook.com/Famapoilinstagram.com/groupe_performatif_famapoil_

Rat Mass

At the Church of Ratology, we worship rats. Through comedy, performance art, and audience participation, we satirise religious ritual in a glorious festival of rats and trash. Our version of confession is the holy game of Sin Bingo. Our rosary, a cheese-eating competition. Our holy water, vile fluids. Over the course of an hour, we teach the audience to behave like rats – in the process, we hope to tear down the social barriers we all put up as humans. The goal is always to create a feeling of community, however absurd the means.Created and Performed by | Perry Letourneau and Joseph Bryanthttps://www.ratmass.church/instagram.com/ratmasschi/https://tiktok.com/@ratmasschi

An unsure artist, incongruent in high-class society, and a young bride, delivered to a new city, are thrown together to create something beautiful for the people that control them. What they end up producing is a delicate all-consuming relationship that will prove to be the most important of their lives. Inspired by the friendship between famed Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli and his model and muse Simonetta Vespucci. Sammy and Clyde are on their first date. It’s cute. It’s awkward. It’s bad jokes and forced laughter. Sweaty hands and wondering who gets the next round. It’s 'I really want to kiss her' and 'I hope he doesn’t try to kiss me'. It’s excruciating, but that’s a first date, right? As Sammy and Clyde get to know each other again, and again, their reality slowly falls to pieces. Missed jokes become hilarious one-liners. Awkward silences become witty repartee. This immersive family drama, about an older relative’s act of aggression towards a biracial child, actively investigates white privilege, judgement, identity and bias. I Am, Other invites the audience, through interactive engagement, to explore why it is not okay to be different. Spectators become participants in shaping the lens through which they see the world. At the beginning they are presented with a scenario and a point of view, then guided through gamified scenes, and asked to reflect on the event's repercussions. This choreographic solo immerses us in the quirky and poetic universe of a character who plays with his identity, transforming it to align with his wishes, fears, and dreams. Through the journey into the various aspects of identity transformation, Negare challenges the audience’s preconceptions, provokes thought about the impact of others’ perceptions, and delves deeply into the dynamics of denial and self-acceptance. Things We Will Miss

A collage style devised work exploring the (potential) collapse of the Anthropocene, this personal meditation on the climate crisis explores the beauty and inevitability of impermanence. Born from the debris of late-stage capitalism, Things We Will Miss features performers in disparate roles, including an amateur astronomer, a park ranger, mythological prophet Cassandra, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and ultimately, themselves. Driven by image, light, and sound rather than linear narrative, it viscerally explores the grief and beauty, the horror and hope inherent in being alive in this very moment.Directed by | Emily K. Ante Beckett

This original one-act comedy by Joel Smith reflects Samuel Beckett's work and themes. It centres on a single Beckett-type character, dealing with his life in the present, within his mother’s womb, and the one he is preparing to face in the vast world beyond. Apart from his struggles with the idea of his existence, he is forced to confront the overbearing presence of his mother and the constant clamour of the outside world, of which he is soon to be part of. Written and performed in the playful rhythm and style that is synonymous with Beckett's plays.Performed by | Paddy McEneaneyWritten by | Joel SmithDirected by | John CartySet and Costume Design by | Eniko HegyiLighting Design by | Michael CumminsSound Design by | Joe HuntMedia Design by | Talie MauProduced by | Paddy McEneaneyAssociate Producer | Brendan MurrayStage Manager and Technician | Jonas DellowThanks | The Board of Exit Does Theatre, The Staff of the Glens Centre, The Staff of ‘The Rainbow Ballroom’, Dylan McGloin, Ellie McGowan and Jay Ryanfacebook.com/exitdoestheatreinstagram.com/exitdoestheatre/

A phantasmagorical imagining of our possible future, confronting the big problems facing the world in which we live: war, hunger, artificial intelligence. With a collection of technical effects, a solo live musician creates his own original wall of sound. Drawing inspiration from artists like Orbital and the Chemical Brothers, this uplifting experience has a serious message. A tribute to the poorest on the planet, to the children who suffer in conflict and to the flora and fauna of our ecosystem. In aid of the International Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. The Jewel of Africa

A unique physical dance show produced to carry your imagination across the cultures of Zimbabwe and Africa through music and dance. Fast-paced African Warrior dances, traditional ceremonial dances, gumboot dance and African contemporary jives are closely accompanied by the sweet melodies of African voices. The Drum (Ingungu) plays a great role in delivering a heart-stopping display of well-choreographed dance moves while instruments like Amarimba (Xylophone), Hosho and Mbira bring everything together. Finally, African costumes brighten a production which proves that art from Zimbabwe is indeed a Jewel of Africa.Created and Peformed by | Ezimnyama Dance EnsembleDirected by | Phibion NcubeTour Manager | Thulani Javas SibandaManagement Company | Exclusive Managementwww.exclusiveperformers.com/uk-tour-2024facebook.com/EzimnyamaDanceZimbabweyoutube.com/watch?v=pRsyfzQspkQ

[CANCELLED] Tituba

Playwright Winsome Pinnock gives a compelling voice to the enslaved woman who was the the first person to be accused of witchcraft during the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Relegated to the sidelines of history in Arthur Miller’s Crucible, Tituba is resurrected with complexity and humanity. A stranger and perhaps truer story of the events that led to her confessions and the havoc they caused. Contextualising cultural norms of the time and asking difficult questions, Tituba invites her audience to confront the horrors of the past with humour and compassion.Performed by | Faith Martin AbongoWritten by | Winsome PinnockDirected and Produced by | Faith Martin AbongoSet and Costume and Sound Design by | Faith Martin AbongoWe regret to announce that this production of Tituba has been cancelled for reasons beyond the control of PolyXo.PolyXo will instead perform The Elephant in the Room, at the dates and times that Tituba was to be performed.

The Santa Ana

Is a strong wind all it takes to tip people over the edge? This multimedia thriller is inspired by Joan Didion’s essay on the Santa Ana. A multiplicity of characters are thrown into turmoil by these winds, from an oil magnate in fated pursuit of profit to a disaffected wife with murderous desires. As suicide rates increase and forest fires rage, this new play explores the simultaneous parallel decay of our environment and our mental health.
